Are you a Tortoise? Episode 49 - Jana Francis- Part 1 of 2
What is the lesson from the parable of the tortoise and the hare? We all know the story – during their race the hare ran fast but took lots of breaks, expecting to finish first by cutting it close. The tortoise took its time, was steady and consistent and never took a break. Many people say this is a lesson on pacing ourselves. But is there another lesson?
Instead, maybe we could look at it as a lesson on perseverance. The tortoise kept trudging. It wouldn’t quit even though the going was slow. When asked what her secret to success has been, Jana Francis, co-founder of Steals.com told us:
I would have to say, seeing so many other businesses fail, there are a few things that I would have to attribute it to. The first is just absolute grit and the inability to give up. I mean, I refuse to give up!
Industries like media have all seen huge transformations in how their products are received and used. Instead of losing hope over these changes, key players refused to quit because they were committed to learning from the market. They have survived while so many have gone out of business. There is a reason why the parable of the tortoise and the hare has been passed along for thousands of years; why do you think it has persevered?
